The new cap badge incorporates motifs from earlier units

A special parade will be staged at Catterick camp in North Yorkshire - on the anniversary of D-Day.

The formation of the Yorkshire Regiment follows an MoD decision that infantry units will be restructured to create more flexible fully-manned regiments.

Parades will also be held at other camps where the new regiment is based.

The 1st Battalion Duke of Wellington's Regiment, the 1st Battalion Prince of Wales's Own Regiment and the 1st Battalion Green Howards will change their old cap badges for the new Lion and Yorkshire Rose emblem of the new regiment.

The Yorkshire Regiment will continue to recruit from within the historic boundaries of Yorkshire, as it has done in various guises for many years.

The new regiment will consist of a total of 2300 soldiers and officers - three regular battalions of 600 soldiers and a TA Battalion of 500 soldiers.

There are a total of 1700 cadets in the Army Cadet Force and Combined Cadet Force affiliated to the Yorkshire Regiment.
