A preliminarily rated EF1 tornado touched down in Washington County, Kentucky early Friday morning, leaving behind mangled homes, scattered debris and at least one fatality. As emergency crews cut their way through downed trees to respond, video revealed splintered wood and leveled homes in the storm’s wake.

The massive plumes of smoke continue to be pushed south by the winds into the Northern Plains and Midwest.
