The Indiana State Examiner is an appointed state executive position in the Indiana state government.[1] The state examiner serves as the head of the Board of Accounts.[2]

Authority
Title 5, Article 11, Chapter 1 of the Indiana Code addresses the office of state examiner:[4]
There is established a state board of accounts. The board consists of the state examiner and two (2) deputy examiners as provided in this section. The principal officer of the board is the state examiner, who shall be appointed by the governor and who shall hold office for a term of four (4) years from the date of appointment. |
Qualifications
The qualifications to be eligible for state examiner is also spelled out in the Indiana Code:[4]
The state examiner must be a certified public accountant with at least three (3) consecutive years of active experience as a field examiner with the state board of accounts that immediately precedes the appointment as state examiner. |
Appointments
The state examiner is appointed by the governor to four-year terms. They serve at the pleasure of the governor and can be removed due to incompetency or misconduct.[4]
