Subject: texlive-base: please update documentmetadata-support to version 1.0n
Date: Wed, 07 May 2025 17:00:20 +0200
Package: texlive-latex-base
Version: 2024.20250309-1
Severity: normal
Tags: upstream
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA512
Please update documentmetadata-support to at least version 1.0n,
released on 2025-03-26.
That version improves the (still experimental, but within constraints
now considered production ready) support for Well-Tagged PDF to support
a less obscure command.
Version 1.0n now in Debian unstable/testing requires this:
```tex
\DocumentMetadata{testphase=latest}
```
Version 1.0n alternatively supports this:
```tex
\DocumentMetadata{tagging=on}
```
Would be great if what ends in upcoming stable release supports the
stable declaration.
Kind regards, and thanks for all your work on packaging TeX Live,
- - Jonas

Do you know if I can just update documentmetadata-support to the new
version or
if I need to bump the whole package latex-lab?

Please don't. This probably needs additional latex kernel support.
Jonas, have you checked that updating this package only does not break
anything?
The LaTeX Team is uploading this according to and in sync with the
latex-dev schedule. Blind updating will only create havoc.
A normal new checkout of the whole of TL after the packages has been
included in TL proper is the proper way.
Best regards
Norbert

I don't know, but am happy to test if you might perhaps be knowledable
in guiding me in how to test it. I have tried fumble with tlmgr but
without success.

Hi Norbert - nice to hear from you :-)
As already replied I haven't tested that but am happy to test, if
someone can help guide me on how I can establish such test.
From just reading the commits of the latex-lab git repo, it seems it
might work with older releases of surrounding code. Also, it seems to
me that although depending on code at the core of LaTeX, this project
should not wreak havoc on the of LaTeX even if itself broken. But I am
clearly no expert here.

Shortly before the hard freeze I'd do a minimal change, by just patching
the file in question. As we don't rebuild the documentation during
build, I'd either need to build a new orig.tar.gz or deliver a
documentation which does not completely fit to the installed software.
Without testing I don't really like both ideas. So, I refuse your
request and lower the severity to wishlist. I you need the new version
please put it into you local texmf tree. I'll close the bug in the
trixie+1 upload.
Sorry,
Hilmar

Understandable.
Would be awesome if you could then issue a newer snapshot of TeX Live to
experimental, to at least have the functionality generally available for
users of Debian unstable.
