Subject: coreutils: dircolors: pattern matching is too simplistic

Package: coreutils
Version: 4.5.2-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

The pattern matching for colorization is too simplistic to handle
the backup files that nvi creates.

Here is a (limited) workaround,

    *~0 30;47
    *~1 30;47
    *~2 30;47
    *~3 30;47
    *~4 30;47
    *~5 30;47
    *~6 30;47
    *~7 30;47
    *~8 30;47
    *~9 30;47
    *~10	30;47

as can be seen, besides being incomplete, this get boring real
fast.

What's needed is some kind of reasonable pattern matching, eg,
shell globbing, usenet wildmat, etc.

Thanks,
