Package: hfsplus
Version: 1.0.4-2
Severity: wishlist
Hi,
I have a 15 GB iPod with a damaged filesystem after the kernel hung
during unmount (after having modified the fs of course...).
hpfsck fails to repair this:
# hpfsck -v /dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part3 > /tmp/hpfsck.log
checkbtree_key_by_index: offset out of range 7600 >= 1000
hpfsck: hpfsck: no error (Success)
The file /tmp/hpfsck.log is attached.

I reckon that this is an early version of the HFS+ patch from
ardistech.com you are using? In my experience, this driver likes to
damage file systems in a way that even fsck_hfs and Disk Utility
cannot restore them to a sane state. I would strongly advise that you
re-initialize your iPod and upgrade your kernel. Both 2.4.21-ben2 and
2.4.21-ac4 contain more mature support for HFS+.
Apart from this general guess and recommendation, I have no idea what
is happening here. If you read the first few Megabytes from the raw
device and send them to me, maybe I can debug the problem.
Regards, Jens.

Yes, it's the driver from Ardistech, from 13/6. Other than this I've
had more problems with the underlying sbp2 module than with hfsplus,
but oh well, I have a backup :)
Any idea where I could get a reliable mkfs.hfsplus?

http://home.o2w.net/~ivo/ipod-fs-10M.bz2 (207kB)
Thanks!
