Subject: mozilla-firefox: Ctrl-w should warn user if current page is a form
Date: Fri, 07 Oct 2005 16:19:45 -0400
Package: mozilla-firefox
Version: 1.0.7-1
Severity: wishlist
When the user presses ctrl+w, firefox should warn the user if the web page being displayed is a form.
When the web page displayed is a form, the user may be entering some very long piece of text (e.g., in a web mail application, or in a wiki). This is also a time when the user is suspectible to pressing ctrl+w accidentally (because ctrl+w normally means "erase word" when editing text). When ctrl+w is pressed, firefox closes the tab/window immediately, without warning, and the user loses all the data that has been entered. In web mail or wiki scenarios, the user might have spent an hour or more composing the text and might not be able to remember what has been typed.
(The warning for closing multiple tabs is not related to this wishlist item, as that feature only works when the user tries to close the window. However, in a tabbed setup, ctrl+w will close the tab, and that will not trigger the existing warning mechanism.)

This has NEVER been addressed and is still relevant to 2.0.0.7

I have to say that, for this wishlist request, going to google (arguably the
most well-known form out there) and pressing ^W has got to be quicker than
producing this triage mail. I really don't understand how this retriaging
process works =P
