Package: gzip
Severity: wishlist
Version: 1.3.5-12

It would be ideal if zdiff would either inspect file contents using
file if it is available or have some sort of option to override the
results of checking the file extension.

[This would be useful, because I find myself often comparing things
like gnumeric files which are compressed but don't normally carry a
.gz or .tgz or .tar.gz extension.]

Thanks for the patch you provided in early Feb. Unfortunately, applying
this patch causes 'make check' to fail like so:

  make[4]: Leaving directory `/tmp/buildd/gzip-1.4/build'
    GEN    gzip.doc.gz
  { test '..' != . || ./zdiff --__bindir . -c gzip.doc.gz; }
  ./zdiff --__bindir . -c ../gzip.doc ../gzip.doc
  ./zdiff --__bindir . ../gzip.doc gzip.doc.gz
  ./zdiff --__bindir . -c - ../gzip.doc <gzip.doc.gz

And so on.

Want to try again?
