Subject: xbiff: want to be able to run a program from it
Date: Mon, 5 Apr 1999 13:37:44 +0100 (BST)
Package: xcontrib
Version: 3.3.2-3
Severity: wishlist

It would be really nice if xbiff were to be able to run a program by,
say, clicking mouse-3 over it. The obvious use I see is this: people
are subscribed to several mailing lists, and sort their mail using
procmail or mailagent or the like, and have multiple xbiffs running to
watch the various mailboxes used. Then clicking with mouse-3 will
fork and exec the command in ~/.xbiff, which might look something like:

xterm -title %F -e mutt -f %F

where %F is replaced by the fullname of the mailfolder being checked.

Of course, have to watch out for buffer overflows etc., although this
is not actually a security risk (no setuid, etc.).

   Julian
