Lately our OutgoingRunner process is disapearing. The only thing that
seems to be related in the logs is an assertion that fails when
a bounce is being processed. In the error log (below) the "[email protected]"
is an email address that is NO LONGER valid on our mail server.

The entire error from /var/log/mailman/error:

Subject: mailman: Probably fixed by #517997, not in lenny yet
Date: Fri, 12 Nov 2010 11:33:45 +0100
Package: mailman
Version: 1:2.1.11-11+lenny1
Followup-For: Bug #549116

Probably the fix (http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg52700.html)
for #517997 (which is already archived) will fix this too.
Why is that fix not in lenny ?

Applying it local avoided the exception here (and thus getting a lot of
repeated bounce processing mails) today.

Thanks,
  Hermann

While I understand that you would like to see it fixed in Lenny, unfortunately
Debian's stable update policy only allows for critical bugs to be fixed. It's
a tradeoff between stability and fixing more issues.

Cheers,
Thijs
