Subject: lintian: [new check] illegitimate use of uscan in get-orig-source
Date: Fri, 6 Nov 2009 00:13:16 +0100
Package: lintian
Version: 2.2.17
Severity: wishlist

Without special precautions (like changing current working directory and
using --destdir option) using uscan in the get-orig-source is likely to
violate the Debian Policy requirements, i.e. it won't be possible to run
invoke the target in any directory.

It would be nice if linitian detected some cases of such invalid use of
uscan.

Please keep in mind that BTS messages appear as emails in a crowded inbox, so
the subject line can be a good place to put valuable context.

Hi Jakub.

> Verify safe use of uscan in get-orig-source

I fear that this check would be too brittle to warrant inclusion in
Debian, unless there are specific problems we can reliably grep for.

Do you any particular examples of such regexes (or similar)? If not,
I believe we should close this issue.
