Hi,

I would like to have the package apg which I have been maintaining for
a long time pulled from Debian since it's dead upstream. apg is,
however, an implementation of NIST FIPS 181 which is a well-known
standard.

Would it be possible to have the NIST FIPS 181 implemented as an
option in pwgen?

Unfortunately, apg is 3 clause BSD while pwgen is GPL, so it is not
simply done by pulling in the relevant code from apg.

Greetings
Marc

Why not?

AFAIK BSD 3-clausule is compatible with GPL.

You can pull BSD 3-clausule code into a GPL project meanwhile you
respect the license and copyright notices of the files you are importing.
