Package: docbook-stylesheets
Version: 1.57-3
Severity: normal
A footnote appearing in a title also appears in all toc.
Particularly, in html, the link is wrongly set. I think you shouldn't
rendered the footnote ref in TOC, only in the title itself.
See http://arpeges.fumble.org/arpeges/c241.html for an example
(The entry is "Les Blessures[1]") All the code is available online
on the same site.

Subject: Incorrect rendering of footnote in html head section.
Date: Wed, 01 Nov 2000 15:55:29 -0500
Package: docbook-stylesheets
Version: 1.57-3
The <head><title> element of the HTML header as well as the <head><link>
elements also include all the text of the <footnote> (see the title of
http://arpeges.fumble.org/arpeges_0.4.1/sblessures.html for an example).
Special care should always be taken when using title element in other
place than usual (like toc, xref, link endterm, or html head title).
Please, forward it upstream. Thanks.

Yes, but only in the cases where the footnote is a footnote off the
title.

Ok. Norm, I've confirmed this bug in 1.60 as well.
You can get a tarball with the sources (SGML, Makefile) in it at
<URL:http://arpeges.fumble.org/> .
The source markup, for your convenience, Norman, looks like this:
<sect1 id="sblessures" revision="$Revision: 1.17 $ $Name: release_0_4_1 $">
<title id="stblessures">Les Blessures<footnote>
<para>Le système actuel est presque une copie exacte du système
de <ulink
url="http://www.egroups.com/group/ghost-systeme">GHOST</ulink>
d'Olivier Hascoet. L'auteur tient à remercier ce dernier pour
lui avoir permis d'utiliser ses règles ici ainsi que pour ses
remarques judicieuses et sa grande patience.</para>
</footnote></title>
The title for the produced HTML page is indeed not only the title but
also the entire text of the footnote in this case.
Hereby forwarded upstream to Norman.

| Ok. Norm, I've confirmed this bug in 1.60 as well.
I can't confirm it in 1.65 (the current cvs.docbook.sourceforge.net).
But I did fix it in XSL :-)
Be seeing you,
norm

1) Well, I noticed this bug report in the list, once, and remembered it
2) Today, I decided to try "footnote in title" anyhow.
I know - well enough - why it's happening, now. I won't bother to describe,
as that would be tedious, but to fix, and patch; more info should follow

I mean no offense to the DocBook Modular DSSSL Stylesheet folks, but those
stylesheets can be, "like", a pretty little mess to dig around in.
I think that this belongs somewhere in the DSSSSSSL :
(element footnote (empty-sosofo))
I think it belongs somewhere in html/dbttlpg.dsl
I have no more time for this, and there are other ways to footnote, heh.
So, pardon the short-ended "two cents", here.
