Yinxi, formerly romanized as Yin-hsi (尹喜 Yǐn xǐ), was a legendary figure of Zhou China. He was said to have been a guard at the western gate of the Zhou capital Chengzhou (present-day Luoyang) or, alternatively, at the western pass out of the Luo–Yi valley. His own wisdom caused him to halt Laozi on his way through the gate and, supposedly, he successfully importuned the sage to compose the Tao Te Ching before permitting him to pass.

He later wrote a book called Guan Yi which is of profound knowledge and revered by future scholars. He was also considered an ancient sage later on.

His own book, the Perfect Classic of the Beginning of the Scripture of the Supreme Way (無上妙道文始真經 Wushang miaodao wenshi zhenjing) was lost in the Han period, and later versions were considered to be forgeries.

尹喜（？ - ？），字公度，一說為關尹。天水人，周靈王時為函谷關令。《史記·老子韓非列傳第三》老子脩道德，其學以自隱無名為務。居周久之，見周之衰，乃遂去。至關，關令尹喜曰：「子將隱矣，彊為我著書。」於是老子乃著書上下篇，言道德之意五千餘言而去，莫知其所終。

劉向謂：「喜著書凡九篇，名關令子。」《漢書·藝文志》著錄《關尹子》九篇，題周尹喜撰，已亡佚。

《莊子·天下篇》敘古之道術，以老子與關尹子並述。南北朝時《老子化胡經》記載尹喜與老子一同西去，在西域開創佛教以教化胡人。南北朝末期和唐代的樓觀派，以及明清時以修煉氣功為主的文始派俱以關尹子為宗祖。

《歷世真仙體道通鑑》記載了尹喜受《道德經》的經過：楚康王時尹喜為大夫，後仰觀乾坤之氣象，寂心精思以求道。有一天觀看到東方紫氣西邁顯瑞，預知有聖人將要出關，於是自求為函谷關令。遇得老子，拜為師，請求至道，老子遂著成《道》《德》五千言授與尹喜，喜欣爭持誦，奉行之後，修成至道。
