Little is known about Lu Dunxin's career before or after his brief stint as chancellor, as, atypical for a chancellor, he did not have a biography in either the Old Book of Tang or the New Book of Tang. In summer 665, he was described as imperial advisor (右侍極, You Shiji) when he was named acting You Xiang (右相) -- the head of the legislative bureau of government (東臺, Dong Tai) and a post considered one for a chancellor. Almost exactly one year later, in summer 666, Emperor Gaozong accepted his resignation on account of old age and illness, and he was again made imperial advisor, in addition to the principal of the imperial university. 《舊唐書》、《新唐書》沒有他的傳，太宗貞觀年間曾任中書舍人。665年四月廿七，時任左侍極（即左散騎常侍）、嘉興縣子的陸敦信被任命為檢校右相（即中書令，西臺即中書省的長官）。666年四月十四，陸敦信以年老多病向唐高宗請辭宰相，唐高宗允許，命他為大司成（即國子祭酒）兼左侍極，終年不詳。
