33  | 方幹路收歸國有之詔既頒，湘、粵人士群起譁譟，力謀抗拒，顧未久即定。護川督王人文代陳川諮議局請緩接收川路，詔旨斥之。川人羅綸等言：「部臣對待川民，均以威力從事，毫不持平。」人文復據以上聞，仍嚴斥之。未幾，以趙爾豐署四川總督。川人因路事持久不決，始以罷市、罷課，抗糧、抗捐，發布自保商榷書；繼則集眾圍攻督署，再攻省垣。遂命端方率軍入川。又以川事日棘，命前粵督岑春煊赴川辦理剿撫。春煊既受命，請以現金償川省路股，桂撫沈秉堃亦以為言，部議借英金三百萬鎊，不能決也。春煊至鄂，會成都圍解，稱疾不往。 |
| 35 | 疏入不省。而川省溫江等十餘州縣民團，每起數千或萬人，所至焚掠，勢極猖獗。大軍擊退之，旋據崇慶、新津、彭山，而嘉定、灌縣相繼失陷。邛州軍隊譁變，汶川縣署被毀，命湘、鄂、陜諸軍赴援。會鄂事起，川亂愈亟，以岑春煊為川督，而川省旋為民軍所據，端方、趙爾豐均及於難。乃罷盛宣懷以謝川人，而國事已不可為矣。 |
