11  | 道光季年，粵匪洪秀全始謀逆，其黨李嘉耀潛入省垣煽土匪內應，發覺，淑元鞫得餘匪匿所，悉數掩擒，敘功昇龍州同知，以肅清會匪獎知府銜。二十九年，擢太平府知府，旋任龍州。時廣西巡撫鄭祖琛懦而黯，群盜蜂起，輒務諱匿。三十年，賊潘寶源等來犯，淑元率練丁御諸距州十里之灣道，以次子光頡自隨。戰不利，雨甚，藥濕砲不及發，因退回城。及門，賊已由間道入，擁眾逼官廨。淑元立堂上，罵不絕口，呼家眾殺賊。賊斫淑元僕地，擄之去，光頡奔奪，賊殺光頡，而投淑元於勤村河。盜去三日，始出之，身首皆裂，獨面色如生。 |
