加諾搦斯者,教科也。陡祿日亞者,道科也。其教授各有次第,大抵從文入理,而理為之綱。文科如中國之小學,理科則如中國之大學,醫科、法科、教科者,皆其事業,道科則在彼法中所謂盡性致命之極也。其致力亦以格物窮理為本,以明體達用為功,與儒學次序略似。特所格之物皆器數之末,而所窮之理又支離神怪而不可詰,是所以為異學耳。末附唐碑一篇,明其教之久入中國。碑稱貞觀十二年大秦國阿羅本遠將經像,來獻上京,即於義寧坊敕造大秦寺一所,度僧二十一人云云。考《西溪叢語》,載唐貞觀五年有傳法穆護何祿將祅教詣闕聞奏。敕令長安崇化坊立祅寺,號大秦寺,又名波斯寺。至天寶四年七,敕波斯經教出自大秦傳習而來,久行中國,爰初建寺,因以為名,將以示人,必循其本,其兩京波斯寺並宜改為大秦寺,天下諸州郡有者准此。《冊府元龜》載,開元七年吐火羅國王上表獻解天文人大慕闍,智慧幽深,問無不知。伏乞天恩喚取,問諸教法。知其人有如此之藝能,請置一法堂,依本教供養。段成式《酉陽雜俎》載,孝億國界三千餘里,舉俗事祅,不識佛法,有祅祠三千餘所。又載德建國烏滸河中有火祅祠,相傳其神本自波斯國乘神通來,因立祅祠。祠內無像,於大屋下置小廬舍,向西。人向東禮神,有一銅馬,國人言自天而下。據此數說,則西洋人即所謂波斯,天主即所謂祅神。中國具有紀載,不但有此碑可証。又杜預注《左傳》次睢之社曰:睢受汴,東經陳留、梁、譙、彭城入泗,此水次有祅神,皆社祠之。顧野王玉篇》亦有祅字,音呵憐切,注為祅神。徐鉉據以增入《說文》。
