77  | 嚴延年字次卿，為河南太守，與京兆尹張敞善。敞治雖嚴，然尚頗有縱舍。聞延年用刑刻急，乃以書諭之曰：「昔韓盧之取兔也，上觀下獲書良犬之取兔，仰觀人主之意而獲之，諭不妄殺不甚多殺。願次卿以緩誅罰，思行此術」。延年報曰：「河南天下喉咽，二周餘氓喉咽，言其所在。犚猶人體之有喉咽也。二周東、西，周君國也。咽，一千反。莠盛苗穢，何可不鋤也莠鴇，三纖，生也。苗，粟苗也。莠音誘？自矜伐其能，終不衰止。 |
