1  | 餘年二十許時，閱時憲書，即有欽天監正湯若望、監副南懷仁姓名，皆西洋人，精於天文，能推算節候。然不知其年壽也。後閱蔣良騏《東華錄》，則湯若望當我朝定鼎之初，即進所製渾天星球一床，地平日晷、窺遠鏡各一具。其官曰「修政立法」。順治九年，湯若望又進渾天星球、地平日晷儀器初曰「修政立法」，或前明所授官，或其自署。至欽天監正則本朝所授官也。是年又賜太常寺卿，管欽天監事。湯若望號通玄教師，又從欽天監正升大常卿銜。康熙七年治歷，南懷仁議奏：監副吳維ピ所造八年時憲書，十二月應是九年正月，又一年兩春分、兩秋分種種錯誤。遂革維ピ職，授南懷仁為監副。按國初至餘二十許時，已一百二十餘年。而二人在朝中已能製造儀器，必非少年所能，當亦在三四十歲。則餘識其姓名時，葢已一百五六十歲矣。後閱《明史。徐光啟傳》，以崇禎時歷法舛訛，請令西洋人羅雅谷、湯若望以其國新法相參較。書成，即以崇禎元年戊辰為歷元。是崇禎初已有湯若望，則又不止一百五六十歲。嗣後又不知以何歲卒也。 |
