12  | 堯曰：「咨爾舜！天之歷數在爾躬，四海困窮，天祿永終。」舜亦以命禹：「予小子履，敢用元牡，敢昭告於皇天后土，有罪不敢赦。萬方有罪，罪在朕躬。聯躬有罪，無以爾萬方。」或問之曰：《論語》書記問對之辭爾，今卒篇之首，章然有是，何也？柳先生曰：《論語》之大，莫大乎是也。是乃孔子常常諷道之辭云爾。彼孔子者，覆生人之器者也。上之堯舜之不遭，而禪不及己；下之無湯之勢，而已不得為天吏。生人無以澤其德，日視聞其勞死怨呼一作乎，而己之德涸焉無所依而施，故於常常諷道云爾而止也。此聖人之大志也，無容問對於其間。弟子或知之，或疑之不能明，相與傳之。故於其為書也，卒篇之首嚴而立之。 |
