尚書大傳》與《古文尚書》所載不同。《大傳》謂:周公死,王誦欲葬於成周。天乃雷電以風,禾盡偃,大木斯拔,國人大恐。王乃葬周公於畢,示不敢臣也。梅福、張奐等皆引以為言。據今《尚書》言「大雷雨以風,禾盡偃,大木斯拔」,見於周公居東之日,而非其死葬之時。以此一事觀之,則知《大傳》與經抵牾多矣。豈惟《大傳》如此,今之《尚書》與漢本亦多不同。王嘉奏對,引皋陶戒舜之語,曰:「無敖佚欲有國,兢兢業業,一日二日萬幾。」師古注謂《虞書·咎繇》之詞,言有國之人不可傲慢逸欲,但當戒謹危懼,以理萬事之幾。敖字與教字意甚相遠,而敖之意為尤長。元城先生謂恐敖字轉寫作教字耳。僕又觀陳蕃疏曰「皋陶戒舜無教逸游」,則於今本教字初未嘗差也。漢人引經,率多如此。不特是也,如《尚書》「天齊于人,俾我一日」,而楊賜則曰「天齊乎人,假我一日」。《尚書》「上刑適輕,下刑適重」,而劉愷則曰「上刑挾輕,下刑挾重」。《尚書》「黎民於變時雍」,而陽朔二年詔則曰「黎民於蕃時雍」。《尚書》「方命圮族」,《蜀志》、《晉書》皆曰「放命圮族」。《尚書》「平章百姓」,《史記》曰「便章百姓」。徐廣注:便,平也。《劉愷傳》曰「辨章百姓」,鄭玄注:辨,明也。似此之類甚多,漢人各習其師,往往不同如此。
