Things you can do in Flourish to improve accessibility

The accessibility of a Flourish visualization depends both on our platform features and how users implement them. While we provide the tools and capabilities for creating accessible charts, the final accessibility level also depends on user choices like color palettes, descriptive titles, and clear annotations. That’s why instead of a blanket WCAG AA certification, we focus on enabling and guiding users to create accessible visualizations.

Table of accessibility features

Below is a table detailing which of our templates support specific accessibility features and the versions they were introduced in. It’s a quick reference to keep you informed about Flourish’s ongoing accessibility enhancements across our range of templates.

Our approach to accessibility standards

We provide tools and features to help create accessible visualizations while recognizing that final accessibility depends on implementation choices. Our features support key WCAG principles:

While we don’t claim blanket WCAG compliance, we are actively:

  • Working with external accessibility consultants to obtain VPAT certification
  • Preparing for the European Accessibility Act (June 2025)
  • Continuously improving our platform’s accessibility in collaboration with enterprise clients
  • Prioritizing accessibility in our product development

Accessibility changelog

As part of our ongoing commitment to accessibility, we regularly update our templates and components to enhance screen reader support, keyboard navigation, and overall usability. This changelog documents specific improvements we’ve implemented across our platform, helping you track our progress toward making data visualization accessible to everyone.

Logging accessibility feedback and requests

We encourage our users to help us improve the platform’s accessibility by reporting any issues they encounter. If you come across an element within a Flourish embed that appears to lack keyboard accessibility, please send us a bug report, including the URL and a description of the problematic elements. Your feedback is invaluable in our ongoing efforts to create a more inclusive and accessible platform for everyone.

Accessibility roadmap

At Flourish, we are deeply committed to making our platform accessible and inclusive for all users. To achieve this goal, we have developed an accessibility roadmap that lays out our ongoing efforts to enhance the user experience. This roadmap outlines our plans to identify, prioritize, and implement accessibility improvements across our platform. By regularly evaluating and updating our roadmap, we ensure that our platform remains aligned with the latest accessibility standards and best practices.
