Re: SVGA in DOS guests would require emulating SVGA chipset
Thank you for your excellent reply. So as I understand it there's no barrier to being able to achieve SVGA in a DOS VM under Virtualbox...the trick is locating a driver that emulates a virtual SVGA chipset. That was the obstacle I ran into trying to use the SciTech Display Doctor for DOS...it report...

SVGA in DOS guests would require emulating SVGA chipset
I have been tinkering with VMs of older OSes and have made successful use of SciTech Display Doctor in Windows 98SE. Works perfectly. But I thought in order to use that, there must be a SVGA chipset present, no? With Windows 98SE there isn't...there is just the same VBoxVGA emulation that DOS has to...

Re: [Resolved] Mouse integration went faulty on Windows 10
Forget what I said above. There was a problem with VBOXGuestAdditions on the VM I had a Mouse Integration issue with where it refused to enable (when PS/2 mouse was selected). I uninstalled and reinstalled VBGA and now the mouse is seamless on that VM as well...and the PS/2 mouse is selected so USB ...

Re: [Resolved] Mouse integration went faulty on Windows 10
I noticed something about Mouse Integration that makes it very attractive to have enabled and that is you never have to press the Host key to switch between using the mouse inside OR outside of the VM. The mouse is active everywhere, in or out. Curiously, I have two Windows XP Pro 64-bit VMs with VB...

missing any menus on your VM? (File, Machine, View, Input, Devices, Help)
Go to View/Menu Bar/Menu Bar Settings inside VM --OR-- Settings/User Interface outside VM if View menu missing inside VM That will display all the menu options including any missing...for them to show they must not be white, but light blue. Whatever one is not light blue will not show. (In my case b...

Re: Machine Menu Disappeared
I had the same problem and found out how to fix: Host + Home will display all the menu options, including File and Machine Whatever one is not light blue will not show. (In my case both File and Machine did not show.) Click on whatever menu is white and that turns it light blue and returns that menu...

story behind the 08:00:27 OUI used on all Virtualbox network adapters
I've been trying to find the answer to this and after some research I hit a dead end. All virtual network adapters in Virtualbox are automatically given a MAC address that starts with 08:00:27 I looked that up and it was assigned to Cadmus Computer Systems (a daughter company founded by German compa...

Re: idea for better DOS hardware support (i.e. audio, for instance) (#18855)
DOSBox is able to get it done so that sound works in DOS, so whatever they're doing can be incorporated into Virtualbox. It's not a horrendous stretch no matter what you say. I don't know what you know (doesn't seem like this is your area of expertise), but the solution I suggested would in fact wor...

Re: idea for better DOS hardware support (i.e. audio, for instance) (#18855)
No need for any users to modify their software. A better implementation of 386 or 486 hardware including much better SoundBlaster support (the most common card installed on a motherboard besides a modem which almost nobody uses) can be done. If DOSBox can somehow manage it, then it's not a stretch. ...

specific Creative Labs SB16 card used in Virtualbox
I was hoping to find the exact model number the emulation is based on and any advice on getting better audio performance with DOS guests given that only DMA is supported and not I/O addressing.
Thanks!
Steve

VBoxDisp.dll is not digitally signed (on WinXP guest)
That is the (only) warning message I get using DXDiag on a Windows XP Pro SP3 32-bit guest. I was hoping to find a digitally signed (WHQL) copy of that file to satisfy DXDiag. The troubleshooting I'm doing regards the original version of "The Sims" game as played under the aforementioned W...
