I'm getting old. So are Trump's lies.
He claims that the Houthis have 'capitulated', so he will stop bombing Yemen for now.
I’ll turn 82 this month. Right now, I’m looking at an ad for elastic stretch pants that they say will make me look “ten years younger.” So, I’m asking myself, why the hell would I want to look like a 72-year-old?
Trump agrees to stop bombing Yemen.
I’m really trying to avoid responding to every lie that comes out of Trump’s mouth. Doing so is a fool’s errand because his bullshit is intentionally rapid fire so as to overwhelm the mass media and make himself the only story they cover.
So, I’m limiting myself to the irresistible and the low-hanging fruit. For example:
Today, Trump is claiming the Houthis have “capitulated,” and therefore, he will end U.S. strikes on Yemen’s civilian population immediately.
"They said, please don’t bomb us anymore, and we're not going to attack your ships," Trump said.
Trump said he had the information from a 'very good source.'
Anyone who understands the situation in Gaza and Yemen’s military support for the Palestinians knows that this “capitulation story” did not come from a very good source but is simply more of the same, and his please don’t bomb us anymore quote is a complete fabrication.
Yes, the Houthis appear to have agreed not to attack commercial ships in the Red Sea, with the exception of Israeli-affiliated ships, which the group says it will continue to target for the time being. But they haven’t agreed to cease attacks on military vessels as their way of supporting the Palestinians.
This is hardly a capitulation. They have maintained since April that they would end their attack on the shipping lanes when and if the U.S. bombing stopped. The U.S. has struck at least 800 targets in Yemen and killed hundreds of Yemeni civilians since March, according to U.S. Central Command. Former President Joe Biden also launched hundreds of strikes on Yemen.
Finally, while Trump says that the U.S. will stop bombing, he failed to mention that Israel will continue bombing Yemen with U.S.-supplied war planes and missiles. Yesterday, Israeli fighter jets bombed Yemen’s Hudaydah port after Houthi missiles successfully reached Israel’s Ben Gurion airport near Tel Aviv.
