The Arc supports families of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This organization has been instrumental in passing state and federal legislation regarding individuals with disabilities. They include state and local chapters.

The Autism Community in Action (TACA) assistance for families who have children with Autism, including resources and volunteer opportunities. TACA includes a physician advisory board, but  discuss any treatment with your personal pediatrician or physician.

Autism Research Institute (ARI) founded by Dr. Bernard Rimland, a pioneer in Autism, addresses research studies and health issues surrounding autism. Presents videos, resources, information, and conference presentations. They include assessment tools. They provide possible solutions for sleeplessness, self-injurious behavior, autism in adulthood, and better eye contact. Speak to your child’s pediatrician or physician.

Autism Society founded in 1965 by Dr. Bernard Rimland, Dr. Ruth Sullivan and parents of children with autism, is the leading source of trusted and reliable information about autism. Serves families in chapters around the country.

Autistic Self Advocacy Network (ASAN) a toolkit with information about transitioning to adulthood, health care, and links to legislative questions and answers, and more.

My Autism Team includes online parent support by parents who help each other.

National Autism Association (NAA) family support. Local chapters and resources include a reading list. They have discussions about treatment and safety. They include Helping Hand, grants, financial assistance for medical needs. Big Red Safety Boxes and Give a Voice provide communication devices. Parents should talk to their doctor before attempting interventions suggested on the site.

Organization for Autism Research OAR searches for the latest research to assist families with children with autism.

Florida

Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) serves individuals of any age with a variety of disorders relating to autism and other disabilities through seven regional CARD programs throughout the state.

Tennessee

Tennessee Disability Pathfinder is a statewide clearinghouse of disability-related resources and a multilingual helpline. Autism TN used to be the Autism Society of Middle Tennessee. Autism Tennessee offers bi-monthly autism orientation classes, monthly autism education classes, a community lending library (resources available in Spanish), Sib Saturday (social support group for siblings), and information about local support groups & community workshops.

 Vanderbilt Kennedy Center for Research on Human Development is about finding discoveries and best practices that make positive differences in the lives of persons with developmental disabilities and their families. They offer services to those with disabilities, families, educators, healthcare, and other service providers. Programs apply the latest knowledge obtained through disabilities research and provide service models.
