Camden was a shithole even in the early '70s. My great grandmother was robbed, beaten, tied up and left for dead on the floor of her tenement looking apartment. She was found alive a few days later.

Woah. I'm not questioning the authenticity of your story, but do you have a news article about that? That's a crazy thing to have happen to you anywhere and I'd be curious where exactly in Camden it occurred.

This was the 70s so of course you can't exactly link a story. This wouldn't have been that big of a story back then - too much crime going on at once.

Can't verify the parent story but can verify that Camden was a stinkhole in the early 70's.

Great information. You may want to be more specific and use a physical address. My zip provides many carriers that I am unable to get - for instance it provides two different cable companies.

Jim -- What zip code?

Because of the way the government collects the data (census based) zipcode is the easiest for the consumer to understand and is only a little less accurate (except in really big zip codes).

We're in this for the long haul, so in the future we'd love to hook into the main lookups for the big companies and find the REAL data instead of just using governmental data. We'll see if that happens. ;)

This post doesn't contemplate one of the biggest problems on Odesk. The best of the "team" will perform the test. Then they put one of their low level team members on after the team leader passes the test.

The only way I have learned to work around the problem is to require use of the odesk time tracker with WEBCAM. Can't hide who is doing the work with the WEBCAM taking shots of the person. :)

Another way to handle this is to NOT hire teams, but hire independents. That's what I do on oDesk, to ensure the person you hired is the one doing the work.

Unfortunately it can't be avoided. I've always asked the question and most will say they work alone but then proceed to have team members do the work. It can become a big waste of time.

Very true. I've ran into this problem as well. Fortunately for me the team was actually very good. I'm glad you brought this up though. Good points!

Actually Skype works quite well. As soon as candidate says "my mic is not working" and "camera is broken" you know that guy with name Ashish really does not exist - it is just imaginary person made by contracting agency.

However, odesk just recently started id verification process but I still relay on simple Skype calls and actually talk to person.

If it is agency I want to talk to manager/tech lead and actual programer.

I completed the Adwords videos on Lynda.com. Very comprehensive. Actually probably went through all the videos twice to make sure I understood it fully.

Looks like he deleted his post but here's the cache: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:http://...

Bezos must have still been playing checkers when he bought into Living Social. :)

Every time I upgrade I lose email functionality. Anyone having the same problem?

Having represented these people for 15 years, no. Non-sexual and non violent. Whats left. Some form of theft - worse for a company than violence. Multiple DWIs? Drunk. Drug offenses? No.

I see. However I'm not sure that theft in the workplace is worse than violence in the workplace. Maybe you can help me understand.

Sure, violence isn't usually directed at co-workers. I don't think I've ever seen that happen (it does happen of course but is fairly rare). I did have a couple that attacked a customer or two but that was after being provoked. In those cases, they didn't have any prior offenses so weren't convicted felons.

You can't stop thieves though. You never want to insure against that - you will always lose.

Once a thief, always a thief?
