I feel compelled to comment just to note the vintage WordPress Theme being used!

Worth a click just to see how we used to live!

In South Australia, as a requirement for building our house, we had to install water tanks.

We have 22,000 litres of water stored, with pumps and filters. And we are on mains water too so it’s never used.

We also have 6,000 litres of water stored for fire fighting.

As do many other houses on our street and local area.

Then there is the solar and storage batteries…

We could go for a good while and we live in a metropolitan area!

Rural Australians could probably survive for longer as isolation is their life anyway LOL ;-)

That does sound like something is amiss and not the common experience of Mac ownership in the Apple Silicon Era!

> I'm not saying get rid of management. I'm saying get rid of bad management.

How do you tell the difference?

I discovered recently that Microsoft OneDrive will detect a ransomeware attack and provide you with the option to restore your data to a point before the attack!

MS need to advertise this feature more, because I'd never heard of it and assumed all the files on the PC were toast!

Of course, the fact that a script on Windows can be accidentally run and then quietly encrypt all the users files in the background is another matter entirely!

Most cloud providers do this now. Encryption operations like this are relatively easy to detect.

Sign language doesn’t need hearing or sound making!

I suppose language requires a means of communication and someone to communicate to at a minimum. Although actually we think in a language so I guess we don’t need someone to communicate to.

Then maybe language creation just requires the right sort of thoughts?

Edit:

I should have read the article first LOL!

They say as much:

> "Language is both a cognitive system and a communication system," Miyagawa says. "My guess is prior to 135,000 years ago, it did start out as a private cognitive system, but relatively quickly that turned into a communications system."

A good question would be whether sign language can exist at all without spoken language (and its related adaptations) having first existed within the species.

> As with so many products, it's cheap to start with, you become dependent on it, then one day it's not cheap and you're fucked.

Exactly!

As you learn a codebase, you and it become better together.

It can take a while, but the investment in understanding the stack you are working with does pay off.

Trying to shortcut junior devs to productivity is the plot to a cyberpunk horror movie!

Often preferable to API documentation too!

Claude at least will give me an example relevant to my code with real world implementation code.

At least Framework released a new Desktop

And they tried to be fun with it!

The 3D printed tiles on the front are a very cool idea and just perfect right now I think! :-)

I also like the colored backs on the 12 inch laptop they announced

Australian research has also made some excellent contributions!
