Dogs focus their energies on pleasure and curiosity. Being around them can really change your point of view on things. I'm very glad to be able to work from home and spend that extra time with my 13 year old dog.

Thanks for this. I manage security consultants and constantly have questions from people who want to get into the field. I'm going to just send them to your site and call it a reading list.

Oh wow, thanks! I'm putting tagging together at the moment and hope to have ratings and top books by tag. Is there anything else you think I should put in to help people starting out?

Tagging or a mention about beginner, intermediate or other skill level might be good. It's great as it is though, there aren't a lot of good resources like this that round up books in this niche. Maybe do a top 10 list for beginners and link to each review?

Does anyone know the CFAA implications here? My system is a "protected" system, this would clearly be unauthorized access.

django is an ecosystem begging for a cookbook of tips and tricks. There is surely something in this that I don't know.

Start adding these to Pinterest. I think you'll get a lot of traction there.

Thats the plan, we have placed pinterest buttons on the site but should start 'pining' the stuff ourselves.

Hi Todd! 1. I like morning and afternoon. I do a lot better when it's sunny outside.

2. I don't have a problem with it. In fact, I prefer it.

3. I wish people would explain exactly what they want. What is the goal here? I also don't work well when others assume I know everything they know. Breaking down the preferred end result and then explaining why they haven't arrived there is most helpful. Follow that up with specifically what I can do to help them reach their goal and things usually end up successful.

4. I don't believe in MB. I prefer business-y things, but have pigeon-holed myself in the tech world. Ooops.

5. I am constantly on phone/IM with my team. I actually quite enjoy phone calls and feel this is likely an anomaly. Most people don't like it, but I see it as a way to communicate more effectively and avoid email.

6. Split! I actually love working from our offices because I am an 80% remote employee. Facetime, IRL with my co-workers is invaluable. I feel they're more forthcoming and much more willing to share ideas when it's just stopping by my desk. Phone calls, IMs and emails are purpose-driven, which removes a lot of off-the-cuff creativity and brainstorming. I like being available in person for people to just grab me and talk about what's on their mind.

Actually, no, not as much. That's the point of the article. Age bias is cited significantly more frequently in California. That's why the article is news. The first 1/3 of the article provides a few paragraphs worth of hard numbers and statistics.

California != Silicon Valley, though. It also includes the LA area, for example.

I'm not sure how scientific we really need to get about this. Go to San Francisco, go to Palo Alto, go to Mountain View and hang out with startup people. You will see this multiple times a day, and it will pervade your entire impression of the industry.

This phenomenon is not a secret, nor is it obscure.

Oh, I am not disagreeing at all that this is a fact.

Just that the numbers they used to support it are a little weak (LA likely has worse age discrimination for example). It would have been better to not state numbers at all and stick to the rest of the details in the story.

I honestly think the best approach is a blended one. Some time physically in person with your team, and the rest of the time WFH. I find my occasional trips into the office (2 hours away) to be incredibly useful and productive. The key is finding the right balance between in office and WFH to get the most done and benefit the most psychologically.

This image is implying that women are objects to be bought and sold and "controlled". Thus the currency. That's why it's offensive. Women are not "objects" to be controlled or bought. It has nothing to do with solidarity.

Also, your example talks about "making fun of" someone. The image in the OOP example is reducing a woman's personhood to nothing but that of an object. It is intended to mock her existence and imply that she has no personal agency beyond what a man would choose to control her with.

What about publicly naming and shaming KKK members who did participate?

Depends on your policy.

You can have a policy of "we are not allowed to publish personally identifying info of anyone."

You can have a policy of "we are allowed to publish personally identifying info of anyone at will," but you need to realize that it will also affect people you like as well as people you don't like.

What doesn't work is "we are allowed to publish personally identifying info of people that a sizable minority of the community thinks sucks."

Sure, but not by posting that info on Reddit with a link to the shamee's Reddit username. This is one of the only rules of Reddit, and it is for your protection, so people don't say "girlvinyl is KKK member and here is her legal name and address".

Right. It wasn't posted on reddit, it was posted to tumblr.
