Classic Hacker News hug of death

It looks like it's limited to 10 requests per minute, it's less of a hug and more of a gentle brush past.

It's documented as "Per IP", but I'm willing to bet either that documentation is wrong, or it's picking up the IP address of the reverse proxy or whatever else is in-front of the application server, rather than the originator IP.

Why do I think that? Well these headers:

    x-powered-by Express

    x-ratelimit-limit 10

    x-ratelimit-remaining 0

Which means it's not being rate-limited by cloudflare, it's express doing the rate limiting.

And I haven't yet made 10 requests, so unless it's very bad at picking up my IP, it's picking up the cloudflare IP instead.

Probably all those cookies tipped and triggered the connection rate limiter.

I'm not following you at all?

I'm working on a travel planning application. I know a lot of other apps exist, but I'd like to build one myself.

https://github.com/kenrick95/ikuyo

So far it has some sort of activity calendar + expense tracker

There's still so much ideas to implement, like adding map, improve UX of creating activities, to-do list, etc

I've used it once or twice of a short trip, but in 6 months time, I'll have a 2-weeks trip, so that's my self-imposed "deadline" for this project

Anyway this project is a pure static web page and all the 'back-end' is handled by InstantDB ( https://www.instantdb.com/ ) after I saw their submission on HN >.< So far it has been quite a good experience overall except maybe the permissions model which can be a bit confusing to me

Awesome project! Which other alternatives did you find/get inspiration from? I haven't really found great options in the (more broad) travel planning space, which is why I am building in it.

Thanks!

I tried Wanderlog, but didn't get the right 'vibe' for me. The one that I actually used is Navitime specifically to travel in Japan, but didn't have as much function as I hoped.

So most functionalities I had in mind was inspired from my Excel sheets that I used over the years for travel planning

I concur with this. Been using it on my side project that only have a front-end. The "back-end" is 100% InstantDB. Although for me, I found that the permissions part a bit hard to understand, especially when it involves linking to other namespace. Haven't checked them for a while, maybe they've improved on this...

This looks great and well polished!

Brings back memory to the hackathon project that's quite similar to this that me and my friends did back like 9 years ago!? https://github.com/SpanishArmada/Minesweeper-Battle?tab=read...

Not sure if it's p2p, but I also find that this exist: http://xkcd949.com

Over http?

Relevant xkcd: https://xkcd.com/949/

I agree with this. Some world events aren't relevant with our lives, and some are quite regional but have vast effects. For example, 1997 Asian Economic Crisis impacted my family quite a bit and I have a fond memory of my parents being worried around that time. I wish I could add/edit/remove some of the "World Events"

Just added the ability to copy the world events to your timeline (click "customize"). Then you can then modify/delete them like any other event. As for adding events, you can always create those like you would any other event. Hope that helps!

Because of this Outlook (new) non-sense, few months ago I switched to Thunderbird on desktop and mobile, and it has been quite a refreshing experience. Sure the UI need some time to get used to, but it has been my primary driver now

ikr, the old UIs have good affordance: whether or not the UI elements are interactable or not unlike the "modern" UIs which are kind of terrible in this aspect

I tried to import the OPML file exported by https://wordpress.com/read/subscriptions but it says "Failed to parse OPML."

Edit: just managed to find the support email. I'll send you the OPML file through it~

Apologies for the inconvenience. A fix has been deployed.

this is why HN is the best

Thanks a lot for the prompt support!

Thank you for the email. The OPML import is a bit of a newer feature so it hasn't had as much testing. I'll take a look to see what's going on and get back to you.
