I remember it being mentioned in the "Work rules" book by that Google guy. They had a desert in their canteen called "Free Tibet Goji-Chocolate Creme Pie..." in the canteen. They said "well, the food is free, and the berries come from Tibet, so ..." Trying to be cheeky. But several people threatened to quit over this, and they had a huge discussion on the internal mailing list with over 1300 replies. The chef who created it got suspended, and then people got worried because of the chilling effect that this would have on free speech. Eventually the suspension was reversed. Very dramatic.
The Chinese government thinks it could lose the power struggle over Hong Kong, while it was confident about the Chinese invasion and assimilation of Tibet. Hong Kong is a real threat to the Chinese regime.
i was a tobacco user for roughly ten years, equivalent of 2-5 cigarrettes a day max.
The month i picked up a juul that amount effectively 10x'ed. I feel bad for all these kids who are going to leave high school with a stronger nicotine tolerance and dependence than some 40 year chain smokers.
This is why I never tried it. I bet I would like it, a lot. And with cigarettes you have to go outside, you smell bad, etc., these things have none of those problems. It just looks very easy to get hooked on them.
We need protein to feed the world. Beef and lamb are environmentally horrific, and for some people there are ethical problems too. Chicken is less harmful for the environment (still pretty bad), but the ethical problems for most forms of chicken (anything other than properly free range) are severe.
We could try plant based diets for everyone, and if done correctly that would increase health, but it's possibly tricky to do.
Supplementing a plant based diet with entomophagy could feed the world at considerably lower carbon footprint than current meat based diets.
