Seen this dozens of times this year. This is policy from VMware/Broadcom.

"make" Mozilla buy it, give em a heaping grant from the Library of Congress to keep the open web open, and be the engine behind every browser keeping things fair... sounds good to me!

In this scenario I’d much rather that heaping grant goes to a newly independent Chromium nonprofit org. Browser engine diversity is a good thing and worth trying to preserve.

Seriously the chromium project needs an endowment to sustain operations. Especially when you consider chromium OS too.

Are they being forced to sell Chromium? How would that work?

That’s what the article for this thread is about…

No the article is about Chrome, not Chromium

But Google also effectively owns that, right? Or was that your question

Chromium is open source and forkable, so it makes a huge difference in these types of discussions that involve control of the codebase.

Then instead of two browser engines we end up with one? That doesn't sound like a win.

“Everyone” skips the ~83% of folks who have no exposure to any of these. Get clue.

Find me a list of customers on cloud who got hacked, vs folks on-prem. I've got 3k+ customers, I know which one I see 99.99% of the time...

I guess you don't count misconfigurations. But deciding between the cloud vs local is a choice between config or admin.

They should be!

That's crap. We need more access to nature, not less.

We are building an AI tool that we've code-named goose and so uh this was super funny and timely :)

any AI deterrent system seems worthwhile though. how many more useless chatbots does the world really need. it's like candycrush clones.

Seems like a good fit for a development contractor/consultancy: get pros to try to gin up a v1 clone fast. If they show that it's not too bad, no gnarly gotchas, have them help you hire folks who can get to v2 and beyond. Starting a software dev practice is daunting without prior applied experience, use the cheat code.

heheh Vic and I did one in a backpack, worked good :)

Planning for a keyboard case?
