That's so dumb. :( Fast forwarding through ads is half the reason for recording in the first place.

around where I am, last I saw one, they were doing Pokemon sprites.

This. Not to mention a lot of people are food-insecure and cannot access or afford healthier options.

I would not underestimate the how shortsighted people are -- most of my peers are PhD students and most of them skip meals. Anecdotally, none of my flatmates eat breakfast, and my office mates often skip lunch and/or dinner because they have a meeting. The food offered at the university is a steal for the price and how convenient it is. These people are not out of money, they are (work) sprinting.

Is skipping meals bad? Like let’s assume the worst case: someone ate like shit all 3 meals a day. Instant ramen, spam, potato chips, ice cream, whatever. And then they skip a meal and on their next one they are 1.5 meals worth of food. Is that worse?

Yes. Skipping meals can condition your body to store away more of it because it isn't sure when the next meal will come, eventually making you fatter even if you eat very little.

What does food-insecure mean?

>afford healthier options.

cheap unprocessed brown rice, dried beans, frozen branded grocery store veg is not that expensive. (some spices help as well). Lots of poor students live on that.

Of course, it can't compete with super tasty fast-food places (laced with sugar/salt).

And not a single mention of where he built the Telechron factory. The first and last, I believe, was built in Ashland, MA. Recently, they put up a nice commemorative light-up sign and lit up the old clock tower too.

I want to verbally pronounce this "Apple Pickle". Is that intended?

Yes: https://pkl-lang.org/main/current/introduction/

> Pkl — pronounced Pickle — is a configuration-as-code language with rich validation and tooling

This is my bet; and mayyybe some external bad actors taking advantage of the situation on top of that.

Yes this. This is what I've been trying to explain to my friends.

When Tron came out in 1982, it was disliked because back then using CGI effects was considered "cheating". Then awhile later Pixar did movies entirely with CGI and they were hits. Now almost every big studio movie uses CGI. Shunned to embraced in like, 13 years.

I think over time the general consensus's views about AI models will soften. Although it might take longer in some communities. (Username checks out lol, furry here also. I think the furs may take longer to embrace it.)

(Also, people will still continue to use older tools like Photoshop to accomplish similar things.)

Yes many furs I know are very anti AI art etc, including overreacting to how "bad" it looks, though if I hadn't told em it was AI generated I don't think they'd have the same reaction.

Ironic, since so many furs are in tech, but we all have artist friends I suppose. People just forget that portrait painters were put out of business by photographers, and traditional artists were put out of business by digital artists. And so the cycle and the luddism repeats.

Nor the FCC. I just got a call from a contractor-recruiter call center. (About half of them are scams, but you can't tell, because they all sound like the same foreign call center.) The caller ID said "Public Service". That has got to be illegal?

In my professional experience (since before the pandemic), I've been encouraged not to mix work with my personal life. Regardless, even when I ignored this advice and did share personal details and be myself, the interactions have always felt disingenuous. For me at least, being an actual friend and keeping up a professional appearance are mutually exclusive.

I suppose I've personally been very fortunate to remain friends with a lot of people from my childhood, and meet others through them. Even the people I have met through friends only recently, feel more genuine than older personal connections made through work. (None of my friends spend personal time with people they've met through work, either!)

Interactions with work people will always have that veneer of trying to look and sound one's best in the professional sense, in protection of one's career. In friendships you shouldn't be afraid to show your flaws, imperfections, personal beliefs, personal history, the squishy parts.

Use them together. Use them in peace.
