Martha Stewart is heading to an unexpected ___location in Ridgewood (has she ever been to Queens?), where she will host a one-night-only dinner party. She’s joining Yara Herrera, of Mexican American restaurant Hellbender (which recently received a glowing review in the New York Times) for a menu collaboration. It’s part of a larger Resy series matching up New York chefs with their idols. The dinner includes dishes such as fried oysters with jalapeño mignonette and a whole roasted chicken with vegetables and three-cheese macaroni; Stewart is providing ingredients sourced from her Bedford, New York garden. The already-sold-out dinner takes place at Hellbender on Thursday, May 1, at 7 p.m; people can get notified if seats become available.
The other New York-based Resy dinners feature chef Sam Yoo (newly opened Korean American gastropub Golden Hof and Korean barbecue spot NY Kimchi; plus Golden Diner) with food fan/musician Questlove; plus events in other cities. Stewart’s next project is a cooking competition series with chef José Andrés, Yes, Chef!, which premieres tonight, Monday, April 28.
Anticipated Ridgewood deli is opening soon
The team behind Bed-Stuy Italian restaurant Daphne’s is going to be opening their anticipated Italian Queens deli really soon. Arrigo’s is opening in Ridgewood at 71-08 Fresh Pond Road, near 71st Avenue, on Thursday, May 1. It’ll start off with lunch services only; dinner will begin on Sunday, June 1, where they’ll also serve wine.
The 25-seat restaurant makes sandwiches like the Italian combo, the artichoke pesto, the Arrigo’s chicken cutlet, and the weekend potato and egg tortilla, among others. Then there are house-made pastas such as rigatoni and casarecce with short rib ragu.
