Ángela Aguilar is loving married life with her husband Christian Nodal!

While stepping out at the Billboard Women in Music Awards on Saturday, March 29, the 21-year-old pop star told PEOPLE exclusively that married life has been "amazing" ever since she and Nodal tied the knot in July 2024. She also raved about the "stability" her husband provides in their lives.

Ángela says that Nodal, 26, "roots" for her in all she does. "He's like my No. 1 fan and we help each other out all the time, and it's just so amazing to be with someone that pushes me so much," she adds.

Ángela's father is the iconic, Grammy Award-winning singer Pepe Aguilar, and her grandparents are similarly famous Mexican entertainers Antonio Aguilar and Flor Silvestre. But it was Angela who stole the spotlight at Saturday's awards show.

First, the young star performed "Cielito Lindo" along with the Harmony Project choir, a group composed of singers from diverse backgrounds.

When she later accepted the Breakthrough Award, Ángela gave an impassioned speech dedicated to immigrant women who cross the border into the U.S. "with nothing but hope in their hearts, only to find themselves living in uncertainty and fear," per Billboard.

"You deserve safety, dignity, the right to dream," Ángela said. She was met with a roaring standing ovation, including from Nodal, who watched from the audience, according to the outlet.

She also spoke directly to the young women in attendance at the event, held at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood, Calif. "Sing your truth and when they tell you to be quiet, sing even louder," the singer said.

The pair faced criticism from fans over the timing of their romance. They announced their marriage last July, shortly after they began dating the month prior. Nodal had announced that he and ex-girlfriend Cazzu, an Argentinian rapper and performer, had split just a month before that. The two share a daughter, Inti, born in September 2023, per Hola!

In her speech on Saturday, Ángela seemingly addressed the backlash, telling the audience, "I have had to cry the weights of judgment and speculation of a story that I have not even told. And yet, here I am. I’m still singing, I’m still standing. Because music is who I am."
