Dave Coulier Says 'the Side Effects Have Side Effects‘ amid 'Roller Coaster' of Cancer Treatment Coulier revealed his stage 3 non-Hodgkin Lymphoma diagnosis exclusively to PEOPLE in November 2024. He shared that an upper respiratory infection resulted in swelling of his lymph nodes, which led him to get tested and then eventually diagnosed in October 2024. "This has been a really fast roller-coaster ride of a journey," he said at the time. “I looked at how those words affected [Melissa] and I thought, you know what, I'm going to be strong throughout this, not just for me, but I'm going to be strong for her.” Melissa also spoke out about the difficulties her husband has faced amid his diagnosis, telling WXYZ in January that his treatment has gotten harder and harder over time since his diagnosis in October. "He has some really tough days, and as the chemo has been accumulating it gets a little tougher and more difficult," she admitted at the time. However, Melissa told the outlet that Coulier has kept his spirits up with humor, which helps during the harder days. "Every morning, if he's feeling up for it, we try to put on a song and do a little dance party with the dogs, because when you do feel good, you have to celebrate that too." Throughout his journey, he said he’s been pulling inspiration from family members, many of whom also went through cancer. “I lost my mom to breast cancer. I lost my sister Sharon to breast cancer. She was 36 years old. I lost my niece, Shannon. She was 29 years old,” he said, adding that his older sister Karen is also going through cancer alongside him. "I saw what those women in my family went through, and I thought to myself, ‘If I can be just 1/10th of a percent as strong as they were, then I'm going to be just fine,' " he added.
