Michael Urie knows how to put on a show.

On Thursday, March 27 in Beverly Hills, Calif., the actor, 44, hosted the 36th Annual GLAAD Media Awards, which recognizes creators who have released art that celebrates the LGBTQ+ community. The Shrinking star made a whopping seven outfit changes throughout the night, each more colorful and jaw-dropping as the next.

"It was an honor to host this year’s GLAAD Media Awards," Urie tells PEOPLE. "Our queer siblings across the country — especially in the trans community — who are being punished and politicized deserved a night that reminded them they’re not alone."

He continues, "I was very excited to celebrate them, and the great art and media of the past year. (And to have some fun fashion moments of course!)"

"Christian Siriano is a genius and I’ve never felt cooler than in our 2019 Met Gala collab. So this suit is an homage to that and somewhat of a sequel! I first met Christian when he played himself on Ugly Betty and have always had the biggest talent crush on him."

"We all know Wicked was a huge cultural moment. Elphaba is the ultimate example of resilience, which is why I wanted to pay tribute to the character and movie on this night specifically. As Glinda says, 'pink goes good with green.'"
