A woman says her husband thinks she cheated on him while she was away on a work trip because of her response time to a text message.

In a post on the U.K.-based website Mumsnet.com, the woman — who first explained that she hadn’t had a night out “in about 2 years” — wrote that she recently went to meet clients for drinks in Manchester.

Detailing that she drove herself to the meet-up, the woman said she told her husband she booked a hotel in the city in advance, as she thought she might want to join the clients in their office the following day and it would be easier to sleep nearby.

During their night out, the woman wrote that “one drink turned into lots" and she “suddenly felt quite unwell.”

After heading to her hotel room at about 9:30 p.m. local time, the woman said she went to text her husband that “the room was spinning," but she became preoccupied.

“I remember thinking, I'll just close my eyes and text him when I am able,” she wrote, explaining, however, that she accidentally fell asleep and didn’t wake up again until hours later at 1 a.m.

“Well, he is furious with me,” the woman said, adding that her spouse “now thinks I cheated on him.

The woman wrote that her husband has since been giving her the “silent treatment” for over a week due to the ordeal, which she called “unbearable.”

“I've known him 16 years and never ever cheated and never done anything like not [contacting] him before on a night out,” she continued, adding that her husband will give her the silent treatment “a fair amount” and “I’ve had enough of it.”

As she asked if she was in the wrong, the woman was met with comments from others, with many stating that while they understood why her husband was upset, they didn’t condone his regular use of the silent treatment.

“If it was the other way [around] posters would be saying it was suspicious and the man was in the wrong,” said one person, before adding, “I'd be cross with you and very worried so I understand him being upset, but silent treatment isn't the way to go.”

Others, however, said that they felt the woman's husband overreacted and that his response was unfair immature.

“No, you do not deserve the silent treatment; that's emotional abuse and no one deserves it. You also do not deserve being treated as guilty of infidelity when you have never done anything to raise his suspicions. He needs to respond to this isolated incident with open communication, like an adult who loves and respects you - if in fact, he does,” wrote one person.

Another user added: “He’s allowed to be pissed off, but it isn’t ok to accuse you of cheating with no basis and it isn’t ok to give you the silent treatment for a week. That’s punishment, not upset."
