Author Name Changes
Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Press has implemented a policy to enable post-publication author name changes without an accompanying correction notice (so-called “silent” changes) if an author requests this. The corrected article will replace the previous version of the article online with the same manuscript DOI, and new metadata will be delivered to the DOI registration agency and PubMed.
A request for a post-publication name change without an accompanying correction notice should be made by email to the journal. No explanation is required. Note that post-publication name changes where an author does not wish a silent change to be made are still possible and will be processed following our usual procedures with a published correction notice (an Erratum or Corrigendum). Authors may prefer this latter option as it maximizes the likelihood that the change is perpetuated to third-party indexing services.
In each case the corresponding author(s) of the corrected article will be informed of the change. The change does not require their approval; they are simply notified so they are aware that the change is not an error and to ensure that they correctly cite the work in the future. If a request to change the name of a co-author is made by the corresponding author, the co-author concerned will be informed.
