Today in the Comics Room. This is our second day of brush and ink. Today we are playing with gray tones. I’m in heaven when I see this work, each line evidence of a hand in motion using a stick with hair attached dipped in what is basically some variation of soot in watered-down saliva, which is a long way of saying our relationship to making ink and brush pictures is very old. There is a book to draw in on the kitchen counter and I do. Sometimes I’m just drawing for the feeling it gives me which is like the feeling roller skating gave me and knitting and crocheting and needle pointing gives me. It’s a radio.

Pages from compbook. Once I decided to keep everything in one notebook I found a partner and participant in keeping the words and pictures and ephemera that are part of day to day life. That feeling I have about wanting to write something or draw something or make notes about something or glue something down— my composition notebook holds all of it. It’s a place. A time and space.
