Supriya equates patient’s death with murders in Beed & Parbhani, urges Mangeshkar family to intervene in hospital’s functioning
Pune: Terming the patient's death after the Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital allegedly denied her treatment a "case of murder", NCP (SP) working president Supriya Sule on Monday said the healthcare facility's behaviour was as insensitive as the state machinery's in the recent incidents in Beed and Parbhani.
The Baramati MP met the family members of the victim, Tanisha alias Ishwari Bhise, in the city. She then urged the Mangeshkar family to come forward to bring changes in the hospital's functioning.
Supriya said, "There is no fault of the Mangeshkar family in this incident. But since Deenanath Mangeshkar's name is associated with the hospital, we should request the Mangeshkar family to intervene."
Reacting to the findings of the inquiry report of the committee constituted by the state govt, Supriya said, "It is a case of murder and the report shows that the hospital authorities were at fault. There should be action on the report within 24 hours. The govt should show sensitivity and take steps to give justice to the family."
Supriya called the doctors and other authorities of the hospital insensitive for demanding Rs10 lakh instead of providing treatment to the woman in distress. "The reaction of the hospital authorities was as insensitive as that of the administration in the cases in Beed (Santosh Deshmukh murder) and Parbhani (Somnath Suryawanshi's death in judicial custody). It was shocking that the hospital did not act even after getting a call from the Chief Minister's Office. The CMO also will have to introspect, along with the hospital, for the system's failure to save the life of the woman," she said.
The Baramati MP recalled that her father and NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar was the chief minister when land was given to set up the hospital. "Lata Mangeshkar took efforts in setting it up. It has been running for more than 20 years now. Though there were some complaints against the hospital, people ignored those and kept supporting the facility. It is really unfortunate that such an incident has happened in the hospital."
