We're just as in the dark about what exactly Apple will announce today as most of you are.
We have some really good guesses, but they're just that: Guesses.
What we do know about is the software running the iPhone, iOS 5. We've been using the iOS 5 developer beta since June. We have a full tour right here.
This is the welcome screen after installing iOS 5. Slide the arrow to begin the set up.

Your phone will take a few minutes to activate with Apple.

You now have a few options: You can restore your phone's settings from iTunes, an iCloud backup, or a new phone. Since we don't have anything backed up to iCloud yet, we'll set this up as a new phone.

If you have an Apple ID, select "Sign in." You can create one if you need to.

Sign in with your Apple ID and password.

If you want to use iCloud, switch the slider to "ON." This will let you back up your phone's data to the cloud.

"Find My iPhone" is now built in to iOS 5. Switch to "ON" if you want to use it.

You can send your usage data to Apple if you want. Privacy nuts should check "Don't Send."

That's it for the set up! Now tap "Start Using Phone."

Here's the new home screen. You'll notice a few changes here. The "iPod" app has been replaced with "Music," for example.

And "Videos" gets its own app. That's much better than digging through the iPod app to find videos.

Swipe your finger down from the top of the screen to view the notifications center. It will ask for your ___location so you can get weather updates from the Weather widget.

Now let's check out the new Reminders app. Tap the "+" to set a new one.

After you enter the event, tap it for more options.

Tap "Remind Me" to adjust when and where you want to be reminded.

You can set Reminders to prompt you when you enter or leave a ___location.

Open the App Store and tap "Updates." From here you can browse the apps you've already downloaded. Tap the cloud icon to get it on your phone.

Open settings for more options. Let's try Twitter integration.

Enter your Twitter name and password, then tap "Sign In."

Your Twitter account is now linked to your iPhone. You can also get the official Twitter app from this screen. Tap "Install Now." (We'll have more on that later.)

Here are your iCloud settings. You can toggle what you want to sync with the cloud on and off here.

Tap "Storage & Backup" to setup automatic backups of your iPhone.

Switch "Back Up to iCloud" to "On." Your iPhone will automatically back up to the iCloud when it's charging and connected to Wi-Fi.

Under Photo settings in iCloud you can choose to sync your photos to the cloud.

Now let's test the new notifications system. Open Twitter and allow notifications when you receive this message.

Under Twitter's settings you can choose what kinds of notifications you want from Twitter.

When you get a Twitter mention, this is the notification that pops up. Swipe down to see all your notifications.

If you receive a notification when the phone is locked, it shows up on the lock screen like this.

The phone opens directly to your new text message.

You can access the camera from the lock screen. Double tap the home button and then tap the camera icon.

You can use the the volume button to snap a photo. It's much easier than tapping the screen. Now tap "Edit" to edit the photo.

You can crop, enhance, and take away red eye. Let's try cropping.

When you're finished cropping, tap "Crop." Now you can save your newly-cropped photo.

Now let's check out the new "Reading List" feature. It's a lot like Instapaper, but built in to your iPhone. When you see an article you like, tap the "Reader" button in the URL bar.

The article is sent to your Reader app. You can also share the article from here. Tap the icon with the arrow.

This cool twitter window pops up. You can see your article attached to the right. Type your tweet and tap "Send."

Finally, there's e-mail search. Open the app and scroll to the top. A search bar will appear. You can search by sender, recipient, subject, or all of the above.
