The Whistleblower Who Said Russian Soldiers Were Being Fed Dog Food Has Been Jailed

Igor Matveyev

Major Igor Matveyev, the Russian officer who claimed that soldiers were being fed dog food earlier this year has been jailed, reports RFE/RL.

In June Matveyev uploaded a video to YouTube that made allegations about the food.

Prosecutors now say that Matveyev made up the dog food story to deflect attention from an incident where he struck a junior officer.

He has been sentenced to 4 years in prison and a fine of 25,000 rubles ($840). He is planning to appeal, according to RIA Novosti.
