. There he continued his studies until he reached the junior year. He then clerked for three years in a store in Belton, after which he was principal of the Belton academy for eight consecutive years, resigning the position in 1885. In 1886 he was elected to the office of probate judge of Anderson county. He entered upon the duties of his office in 1887, since which time he has been a resident of Anderson. He was subsequently twice re-elected, serving in all eight years, retiring in January, 1895. Since then he has been the manager of the Excelsior Oil Fertilizer company of Anderson. He is a member of the W. W. Humphreys camp, Sons of Veterans of Anderson, secretary of the board of trustees of the Anderson graded schools, of the board of trustees of the Baptist Theological seminary of Louisville, Ky., a director of the Farmers & Merchants' bank, and of the Excelsior Oil & Fertilizer company of Anderson.
