, was organized and equipped as the result of these measures, and awaited a call to service. At the end of several weeks it proceeded to Brooklyn, N. Y., in the expectation of joining a regiment, but being disappointed the company returned. Thirty-two members of the corps, with Capt. Ingalls, immediately re-visited New York and were incorporated into the 40th Regiment of New York Volunteers. Report of Military Expenditures during the War, entered on the town records. W. H. May 30, 1879, occurred the first extensive celebration of Decoration Day in Arlington, in honor of the soldiers of the late war. The Revolutionary tablets and the Revolutionary monument were appropriately decorated, with the stones over the remains of the two Revolutionary soldiers in the old burying-ground.
