d no idea the humbug would be so soon confessed. What does it mean? Have they found out that the Russian card will not play well in Europe, where Russia is a synonym for all that is despotic, cruel, and barbarous? Taken in connexion with Henry Ward Beecher's late admission at Exeter Hall, that they had only been coquetting with Russia, and that they really loved the English a great deal better than the Russians, we are satisfied that the Yankee-Russian fraternization has come to an untimely e though they may hate us also, we have taught them to respect us, and the present war has wrung from them many an emphatic testimony to that effect. We are not sure but, at this very moment, even Russia, especially in view of the disclosures of Beecher and the New York Herald, has more respect for the South, which has never given the Czar so much as a complaint, than the North, which loads him at one moment with sickening adulation and taunts him the next with train oil, lard, and barbarism.
