The rebel cavalry are now in the country lying between Cumberland Gap and Knoxville, but no damage has been done to our communications with Gen'l Burnside as yet. General Longstreet has not yet made a heavy assault upon the city, but seems to be anxious to secure prominent positions for his batteries, so that he can command the place from different points and demand a capitulation.
