It took part at the battle of South Mountain, where Colonel Wild was severely wounded; was closely engaged with great loss, under command of Lieutenant-Colonel Carruth, at Burnside's Bridge during the battle of Antietam, and was active at Fredericksburg under Major Willard, who was mortally wounded in the charge on Mar erations in the vicinity in November and was on duty in the city during the siege.
The regiment returned to Annapolis, Md., in April, 1864, and became, under Colonel Carruth, part of the 1st Brigade, General Stevenson's Division.
It was detailed to guard the supply train of the division at the Wilderness.
