eld county, S. C., August 8, 1846, the only son of Robert E. and Cynthia (Robertson) Ellison. His great-grandfather, Robert Ellison, was a native of Ireland, coming to this country and settling in South Carolina and becoming one of the pioneers of Fhe battles of Williamsburg and Seven Pines, in which their captain was killed. On his recovery from a spell of fever, Mr. Ellison was transferred to Company B, Seventh South Carolina cavalry, serving in Virginia, in General Gary's brigade. He tooketreat, remaining with him until they were dismissed at Yorkville, S. C., by General Gary. After the close of the war Mr. Ellison returned home and began farming, which occupation he has followed since. He has been prominent in public affairs and resbyterian church. His mother's father was James Adger, a lieutenant in the war of 1812, and her grandfather was Maj. Robert Ellison, of the continental army, who was captured by the British and confined for some time at Charleston with Isaac Hayn
