The supplies for the soldiers. --Up to Saturday morning the committee to collect subscriptions to purchase supplies for the soldiers had paid over to the Chairman $29,000, leaving still a considerable amount on hand not reported. The whole amount will be in the neighborhood of $40,000. On Saturday the committee received from James C. Bruce, of Berryville, Halifax county, 139 blankets, made of carpets taken from his residence, and valued at $3,000; also, a contribution of $20 from Mrs. Margaret Glenn, of Hanover, a blind lady, seventy years of age. It may be well to state that the committee to purchase the articles needed by the soldiers have expended nearly all the money yet received for that purpose. The articles purchased are turned over to the Confederate Quartermaster who allows Government prices for them and hands over a check for the amount. By this means the committee, by adding more money, have been enabled to purchase and pay for shoes, blankets, overcoats, and so
